Do you have a sweet tooth?
Do you LOVE toys and toy stores?
If so, FAO Schwarz in New York is the place for you!
Read on to find out why…
We first decided to visit this store when I saw this post from Don’t Ever Look Back. Yes, we stole their outing!! They took a heap of photos of stuff that we didn’t see when we were there too.
Which means when it’s your turn to steal OUR outing, you will see different toys than we did!!
We were greeted by the cool doorman dressed as a toy soldier and we then spent a heap of time skulking around in the toys. As is usual for our group, we tried on
any hats we could find!!
Then we spent a good half an hour in the Lego section. Jono has embraced a love of Lego on this trip. (Gert and he will be visiting Legoland while we are in Denmark). You can see the amazing stuff they had at FAO Schwarz – imagine if it was your job to make these enormous models of Batman and a Stormtrooper for the store? What an awesome job that would be!
Check out this huge Lego block!
FAO Schwarz has the big piano from Big (you remember that movie with Tom Hanks?) Here’s our only pic – it was so popular we couldn’t get a turn so gave up and took one of some other person’s kids!!
Kate even made a friend…..
There’s two levels of awesome toys here. Apparently even some that are sold exclusively in this store! We were highly amused to see the number of adults here who didn’t even have kids with them!
Finally we wandered downstairs and I tried to lead the kids out of the same door we came in through. They were having none of it…..they had already spotted a lolly oasis!!
Yes people, the lolly section has its own name! FAO Schweetz!!
Jono was amazed by the size of some of the treats…..
Kate discovered Pac Man lollies……
And insisted we photograph the giant Pop Rocks pack to make Brittney jealous. Here you go Britt…..
We looked everywhere for a sugar daddy…..
And Jono considered sticking his mouth under the sherbet dispenser…..
There were cushions in the shape of lollies and Gert thought he’d try a giant Hershey Kiss…..
Until he discovered his name in giant gummy lollies!! They were US$8.95 per letter!!
And before you ask, I wasn’t completely mean!! I let the kids buy a small lolly each for a few dollars. There may have been anarchy otherwise!!
So where is FAO Schwarz anyway?
You can find the store at 767 5th Avenue @ 58th Street, New York. The day we were there, closing was at 7pm. Here’s the link to the official FAO store page so you can recheck opening times before you go. You’ll see there’s a cool option to have a breakfast tour of the store with a toy soldier guide!
Can I suggest you go with fresh legs? We walked 15 blocks to get there because we were being cheap and not using the subway! We were exhausted!
Have you visited any cool toy stores we should know about?
