Hey everyone, are you enjoying reading our blog?
Did you cringe that time I told you how I flashed a Vegas timeshare group?
Was there pain from giggling when Jono peed on the bus?
Maybe you want us to shut up so you can tell your own stories? Maybe you’ve got your own exciting adventures to regale us all with. Perhaps you just want somewhere to get stuff off your chest? Or you’ve always wanted to write – and need an outlet?
Do you have a business that needs an online presence? Do you want to sell your craft online? Have you got some amazing knowledge about Martial Arts that you want to share with the planet?
If so, you need a blog!
It’s a fun way to get your opinions out there in the world, promote your business or just tell your stories. You might find it’s just what you’ve been missing!!
I’ve had a few people email me and ask how to set up their own blog and who I would recommend for hosting so I decided to write you all the dirty details right here!
So how do you get a blog? There’s a couple of ways.
You can get a free blog in heaps of places such as tumblr or WordPress.com. Just do a google search on free blogs and you’ll find a big list.
This is not my preferred option however. If your blog is going to be short term then the free options are fine.
If you need a website for your business, you want a long term blog that no-one can take away or you want to make money from your blog eventually then you need your own hosted site!
What this means for blogging newbies is that you buy yourself a cool domain name (ours is lifechangingyear.com) and you get a web host. Domain names start at around $10 for the year – less than $1 per month!
Web hosting starts pretty cheap too. Again you can google for the hundreds of offers that are out there but I’m going to tell you who we use and how we can help you set up your very own blog.
We use Hostgator and pay around $10 per month for an unlimited number of websites. We used to be with another provider but we changed over and haven’t looked back. I’ve even broken our hosting account a couple of times and Hostgator have helped me fix it (or just fixed it themselves – lol) super fast!
Since they have such great support, I have no problems recommending their service.
You can click on this link to check out what we are offering with Hostgator. The link goes to our other site traceypedersen.com and explains the steps you need to take to get your own blog.
If you click on the links in the Hostgator post and sign up for your own hosting account we will assist you to get started by installing WordPress for you for free and setting up a basic theme with some basic plugins to make your site work. We’ll also send you a short tutorial document with some screen shots to help you get started with your first posts.
Now don’t think for a second that you can’t install WordPress yourself and do the themes and plugins yourself. If you are confident doing it yourself, go right ahead and get started!
If you have any questions you can contact me here and ask anything you need to know.
Good luck with your new blogging adventure!!
